Terms of service

Draft terms. Have these reviewed by an attorney before you take paying customers.

1. The service

Butler provides online accounting, VAT and payroll software. We give you tools to keep your records; we do not provide accounting, tax or legal advice, and you remain responsible for what you submit to SARS and other authorities.

2. Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login details safe and for the people you invite into your workspace. You must give accurate company information.

3. Trial and payment

New workspaces get 14 days free without payment details. After that a paid plan is required to keep writing to your records. Prices are in South African Rand and are charged monthly in advance. You may change or cancel your plan at any time; cancelling stops future charges and does not refund the current month.

4. Your data

Your records remain yours. We keep them separated from other customers, and you may export them at any time. If you cancel we retain your data for a limited period so you can return or export it, then delete it on request.

5. Availability

We aim for continuous availability but cannot promise the service will never be interrupted. Planned maintenance is announced where practical.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use Butler for unlawful purposes, attempt to access other customers' data, or interfere with the service.

7. Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the fees you paid in the three months before a claim. We are not liable for penalties arising from figures you submit.

8. Changes

We may update these terms and will give reasonable notice of material changes. South African law applies.
